Founder & Fulfillment

 

Nick has been a lifelong sewer. Originally from Montrose, Colorado, his passion for sewing has carried him into a career as a Surface Designer and Professional Pattern Maker.

Nick has a degree in Fashion Design from FIDM in Los Angeles California and has been the in-house costume designer for a number of Hollywood area event companies. He also keeps a busy schedule traveling to shows, teaching pattern making, fitting, and surface design.

Nick has been published in Sew News, Threads Magazine, Machine Quilting Unlimited, and one of his gowns appeared in a special article in Brides Magazine. Nick is also the co-author of a surface design book. 

His most recent undertaking is as the owner of Dragonfly Creative, a teaching  studio for fiber artists, in the beautiful town of Ridgway, located in the stunning rocky mountains of South West Colorado. Nick returned home to be closer to his parents, Roger & Marcia Coman, plus his sister Marianne.

Nick lives in Ridgway, CO with his husband Rick.  Their menagerie consists of dog Tibbs and three cats, Mochii, Miso, and Soba. Plus the occasional apple eating bear.

Outreach & Operations

 

Kayla has been knitting for almost 20 years. She has dabbled with a variety of other creative outlets, such as woodworking, ceramics, basket weaving, and sewing.

Kayla’s professional background is based in Elementary and Early Childhood Education. She taught at a preschool for a decade then decided to pivot and expand. Before moving out to Colorado from Vermont, she attended Green Mountain Massage School.

Kayla met Nick when their mutual friend Jen Sawyer invited her to take Nick’s Ice Dyeing Class. They connected over their love for creativity and contributing to their community. She has been working with Nick and Dragonfly Creative ever since.

Through Dragonfly Creative’s Teen Craft Night offerings, Kayla also wound up working with Voyager Youth Program‘s teen led initiative the H.U.B.B. (Help Us Break Boredom).

 Kayla lives in Ouray, CO. Her canine companion, Maple, is often with her at the studio. A combination of volunteering at Second Chance and witnessing Nick adopt Soba, Kayla also has a cat named Tubbs.
